Paracord 550 Type III is a strong, lightweight rope with a diameter of approximately 4 mm, available in a wide range of vibrant colors and patterns. Manufactured in the USA or EU, this original paracord is made from high-quality nylon or polyester, featuring a durable 32-strand woven sheath and 7 soft, twisted inner cores. What is Paracord 550?

Paracord is available in all sorts of thicknesses, colours and patterns. The various thicknesses are often referred to as "Type" or with the corresponding breaking force (in pounds). For example, the most commonly used "Paracord Type III" is also referred to as "550 Paracord" because it has a breaking force of 550 lbs. (249 kg). In addition to Type III, Type II is also widely used for more elegant knotting and 'Type I', 'Micro' and 'Nano' are often used as accessory cord. The term "Milspec Paracord" is used for Paracord that is made to the strict U.S. Military specifications and is very suitable for outdoor knotting.

Nylon or Polyester Paracord?

Due to the popularity of the paracord there are now many variants available. The majority of paracord users prefer nylon. The main reason is that nylon feels more natural than the more plastic polyester. Nylon paracord is also more elastic, which is experienced as pleasant by knotters.
