Linhasita Waxed Polyester Cord
Looking for a waxed polyester cord or thread to sew leather together, knot jewellery with micro-macramé, or finish any other creative project? Linhasita waxed polyester cord is made for exactly that: a strong, tear-resistant thread that holds a knot tightly and pulls smoothly through leather or fabric.

Linhasita cord is made from twisted or braided polyester strands, then coated with mineral wax. That wax coating is what makes the thread tear-resistant and water-repellent, and it's also what protects it against general wear from weather and handling. Because the strands split slightly, it's easy to work fine detail into micro-macramé or leather stitching, something a plain unwaxed thread can't do as cleanly.
Sizes and construction
We stock Linhasita in 0.5, 0.75, 1 and 1.2 mm, in both twisted (2 or 3-strand) and braided constructions. Thinner sizes (0.5-0.75 mm) suit fine jewellery and micro-macramé, while 1-1.2 mm is the standard choice for hand-stitching leather with a saddle needle or adding an accent to a dog collar, leash or horse halter.
Caring for your Linhasita cord
Linhasita gets its colour from a dye bath, so slight shade variation between batches is normal. Avoid cleaning it with soap, as this breaks down the wax coating that gives the cord its water-repellent properties. The wax also makes the cord flammable, so take care when burning the ends for a clean, neat finish, a common way to prevent fraying without adding a separate end cap.

Frequently asked questions
What is Linhasita cord made of?
Linhasita is polyester thread, twisted or braided from multiple strands and coated with mineral wax. The wax coating is what makes it tear-resistant, water-repellent and easy to knot tightly.
Is Linhasita cord the same as waxed thread?
Yes, "Linhasita" is a specific brand of waxed polyester thread. It's often called waxed cord or waxed thread interchangeably, both refer to the same twisted or braided, wax-coated polyester construction.
Can I wash Linhasita cord with soap?
No, contact with soap breaks down the wax coating that makes Linhasita water-repellent and tear-resistant. Clean it gently without soap if needed, and avoid prolonged water exposure where possible.
What size Linhasita cord should I use for leather stitching?
1 to 1.2 mm is the standard size for hand-stitching leather with a saddle needle. Thinner sizes (0.5 to 0.75 mm) are better suited to fine micro-macramé and jewellery work rather than leather.
